Aqil Sistani (born December 15, 1983, Kerman) is a researcher, author, and faculty member of the Islamic Arts Department, Faculty of Art and Architecture, Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran. He holds a BA in Handicrafts, a MA in Islamic Art, and a PhD in Art Research from the University of Tehran. Since 2002, he has been conducting continuous studies and activities in various fields of handicrafts, traditional arts, Islamic arts, and hand-woven carpets.
His work experience includes research, writing, photography, teaching, and collecting antique handlooms, along with collaboration with related organizations and centers such as the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism, the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Research Institute, the National Carpet Center of Iran, the Carpet and Handicrafts Tourism Commission of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture of Kerman Province, the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Kerman Azad University, the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the University of Kurdistan, the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the University of Arak, the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the University of Sistan and Baluchestan, the University of Tourism Services of Kerman Province, the Iranian University of Art, the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Soure International University of Tehran, the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Tarbiat Modares University of Tehran, the Secretariat of the National Handicrafts City of Kerman Province, and... and most people know him for his artistic, cultural, administrative, and academic backgrounds.
So far, his research has resulted in 6 books, including the Kerman Province Handicraft Encyclopedia, Volume 1 (Encyclopedia of Nomadic and Rural Handicrafts of Baft, Raber and Arzoiyeh Regions), Volume 2 (Encyclopedia of Nomadic and Rural Handicrafts of Bardsir and Shahr Babak Regions) (awarded an honorary diploma and won the first prize for the Book of the Year at the Third National Festival of the Cultural Book of the Year for Students from All Over the Country at the University of Tehran), Kerman Province Handicraft Encyclopedia, Volume 3 (a selection of the oldest and best handicrafts of the Sirjan region), Volume 4: Encyclopedia of Nomadic and Rural Handicrafts of the Global City of Sirjan, Volume 5: Encyclopedia of Kilims of the Global City of Sirjan (winner of the Book of the Year Award of the Islamic Republic of Iran), and the bilingual Persian and English book Introducing Kerman Province Handicrafts, Volume 1 (with emphasis on key fields). He is the executor of 16 research and study projects in various fields of Islamic arts, handicrafts and Traditional arts and author of 18 scientific research, conference and scientific promotion articles, and winner of 19 awards and scientific and research achievements.
